Donate Old Running Shoes to Soles 4 Souls!

We're collecting your old running shoes Friday and Saturday at packet pickup at the host hotel for Soles 4 Souls!  While Heels and Hills is about "Changing Lives One Mile at a Time", Soles 4 Souls motto is actually "Changing the World, One Pair at a Time"!  This non-profit distributes these old shoes free of charge to people in need and has given away over 7 million pairs of shoes in the US and across the world since 2005.

So before you come pick up your packet, grab those old shoes and bring them with you for a good cause!  Note: This is not available on race day - only on Friday and Saturday. Reminder: packet pickup is Friday 2-6 pm and Saturday 9-5 pm at the host hotel, Holiday Inn Express at 333 W John Carpenter Freeway in Irving.

Heels and Hills Spectator Guide Now Available

For those who are registered for the May 2 Heels and Hills Half Marathon and for those who want to come cheer on those who are registered, we have published our Spectator Guide online.  The guide is designed to lay out maps and clear directions for friends and family to drive to or from the spectator point to the race site (so you can leave the race site, go cheer, and then return back to the finish).  We try to list the approximate drive time each way, where to park, and what miles on the course that spot represents.  There are three suggested spectator spots spread out on the course.

We hope this will be a help, as much of the course is not run on roads or easily viewable from the road!  We hope many will come cheer these great runners and walkers, many of which are attempting their signed-up-for distance for the VERY FIRST TIME!

Online Registration Ends in 4 Hours

With record registrations, we're looking forward to a sea of hot pink runners and walkers on Sunday.  If you haven't registered yet, there's still time to join the celebration of getting active.  Remember that we're a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women get active in a fun, untimidating atmosphere.

Go to our website http://www.heelsandhills.com to register tonight.

If you miss out on tonight, you can come to packet pickup on Friday and Saturday to still register.

Friday: 2-6 pm

Saturday: 9-5 pm

Packet pickup is held at the host hotel, the Holiday Inn Express at 333 W. John Carpenter Freeway in Irving - surprisingly centrally located to much of the metroplex, it's a max 30-45 minute drive from most DFW suburbs.

There is NO race day registration.

We'll see you at the finish line May 2!

Only 50 women's tech shirts still available for May 2 event

With tech shirts ordered months in advance, what are you supposed to do when registration numbers are up, up, up?  We only have enough women's tech shirts left for the next 50 in the half marathon and 10K.

After that, you can continue to register, we're really reluctant to cap the race with so many wanting to come, but you will then be asked which size t-shirt you would like.

We look forward to cheering everyone across the finish line on May 2!!!

A Race That Lets You Choose Race Shirt STYLE

And NO white race shirts - you get some COLOR in your life!

But we'd hate for you to lose that shirt style choice because you wait until the last couple days to register! Heels and Hills Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Fun Run is put on by runners like you who know what we like in race shirts and reflect that in what we offer.  So women half marathoners and 10Kers can choose from hot pink sleeveless or short sleeve tech shirts. And these are women's-cut shirts - no spongebob squarepants huge width shirts for the ladies.  However, we only have a dozen women's sleeveless shirts left and in limited sizes! Shirts have to be ordered months in advance so if registrations are up, some sizes will run out sooner!

Men in the half marathon and 10K will have a red technical shirt.  All t-shirts for the 5K and 1 Mile participants are guaranteed NOT to be white too! :-)

Go to http://www.heelsandhills.com for more race info and the link to get registered NOW while we still have your first choice of shirt style and size!

Online registration ends Monday night!

In Awe of Those Changing Lives of Blood Cancer Patients

This is an exciting year as we partnered up with Team in Training in a two-fold way to help people achieve their fitness dreams while they work to make a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients:

  1. In the first season ever of the Team in Training 10K Training Program, Heels and Hills 10K is the Spring 2010 goal race.  Yes, you heard right. Not a half or full marathon training program, but a NEW 10K training program.  With an 8 week training cycle and a smaller amount to fundraise, it's a great way for TNT to help new runners and walkers (and fundraisers) get their feet wet, both in training and fundraising.  About 35 TNT'ers will be completing the Heels and Hills 10K on May 2 - most of them will be completing their very first 10K.
  2. Heels and Hills Half Marathon is also one of Team in Training's Spring 2010 half marathon goal races.  These amazing runners and walkers have been working all year to prepare for this event and raising funds to help those with leukemia and lymphoma.  Over 50 TNT'ers will toe the line May 2 to complete the half marathon - the first one for the vast majority.

On May 2, look for these almost one hundred-strong heroes by glancing at their bibs.  Each Team in Training participant will have a big "Team in Training" under their name on their personalized bib.

And give a shout of thanks as you run by the aid stations and cheering stations.  Team in Training will be out helping and cheering on the course race day!

We are so happy to be able to be involved with Team in Training and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We'll see you all at the finish line May 2!

Thursday's Last Day to Get Your Bib Personalized

A great souvenir. Your name being cheered along the race course.

What is "Reasons why a personalized bib is awesome?", Alex?

Yes, register by the end of tomorrow night, Thursday, April 1, for the Heels and Hills Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, or 1 Mile Fun Run on May 2, and we'll print your name on your racing bib.  And our bibs are indeed colorful.  Because, really, shouldn't they be when you have colorful race shirts and colorful half marathon finisher medals?!?

We can't wait to cheer everyone into the finish line on May 2!

Heels and Hills Half Pace Team - Men in Skirts!

We're excited to announce a special group of fellas will be the Heels and Hills Half Marathon Pace Team on May 2. They'll be donning a running skirt and bringing a fun attitude to motivate everyone to achieve their finish time goal.  We'll have guys in roughly 10 minute intervals from a 1:40 finish time to around a 2:40 finish time.

And many of these guys are experts at this - not the wearing a skirt part, but the motivating others to succeed part! Several are pace coaches for Dallas Running Club and Runwell training programs. Many of them have paced different finish times for local half marathons over the last year. And a lot of them are part of a spirited social group called Runners Drink Beer who bring a camaraderie to this running community!

Barring injury, here are some of the pacers who will be there to help you to the finish line!

Bill Borowski, Ryan Burns, Melvin Chu, Bryan Crabb, Jay Cutcher, Michael Farrell, Jerry Floyd, Felix Gaytan, Matt Gore, Kyle Hemmer, Mike Hitchcock, Mark Olateju, Novle Rogers, John Via

20 Reasons to Love Heels and Hills - #7 & #8

Since early reg pricing ends Feb. 28, we're counting down 20 reasons to love Heels and Hills Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Fun Run (coming up on May 2) starting February 8, with one reason each day. Sunday was #7 and Monday was #8.

7. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to our participants and we donate to local charities – Our number one non-profit cause is our participants - we are focused on running outreach and creating a fun and unintimidating environment, and we retain proceeds as needed to do that outreach and keep entry fees affordable. We also love to give back to the community - our major charity partner is Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas, who received about $5,000 as a result of our 2009 events. We also donate to Team in Training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

8. Location, location, location – Being in North Irving means we’re no more than 20-30 minutes away from all the following local cities with big run clubs: Dallas, Fort Worth, Grapevine, and Plano.  We’re also only about 15 minutes from DFW International Airport!
