DRC Half on Nov 2 - Half Marathon full, 5K still open

As a race director, for me, race week is chaotic, more than most people could realize.  I am very sorry if you did not get into the half marathon, but please don't take it out on me.  < I am not looking for pity here, I just want everyone know what really goes on behind-the-scenes as a race director >

I have tried SO hard to communicate exactly how close to the cap of 4,000 since we announced it over a month ago.  As a runner, I hate when a race cap completely surprises you when the race gave no warning.  Or worse, races that heavily inflate how close they are to their cap, and as a race director this drives me crazy - it violates the trust we have with the runner.

So about a month ago, you could go to the DRC Half website or watch for blog entries here, to see the progress towards the cap.  65%...70%...80%...  Then I even went so far in the last week to have a note on the main page of the DRC Half Marathon website showing the exact percentage and an "as of" date and time.  So then you saw 93%...94%...96%...97%...98%...99%.  Then, "less than 100 slots left", "less than 70 slots left", and finally "less than 25 slots left".

And then at 1:30 am the morning of Monday, October 27, we hit our cap!  The momentum of this year's race has been incredible.  And I get so excited that you all are looking forward to this event as much as I am!

Now maybe you don't want to miss out on the excitement since your friends registered a week and a half ago, and you forgot and have slapped yourself in the forehead.  Don't despair.  You can still go ahead and run the 5K, and then cheer in all of your friends!

I can't wait to see ALL of you race day morning.  And I really truly hope everyone has a great race experience.  And thank a volunteer - this event can not happen without the 15 Team Leads, 8 Assistant Team Leads, 450 volunteers, and our awesome sponsors!

Libby I concur. You kept us in the loop every step of the way. It was exciting to see how close to the cap the entries were getting each week even each day. I told all my friends and running buddies to get off their a%%es and get registered...and they did! So, stop beating yourself up! You kept us extremely well informed and you can't satisfy everyone. Some people are just procrastinators and sometimes there are consequences for this habit. Let's move on and enjoy the two races this Sunday. I'm stoked!!!

With the up and down of the number of runners the last few years you have done an OUTSTANDING job as the Race Director for The Half, and President of the DRC! I know you are looking forward to being a 'regular' runner alongside the rest of us next year. Thanks for a job well done. See you Sunday at the start line.
