Anyone know of a good podiatrist?

Blog Entry in Melvin Chu's Blog (125 Views) (7 Comments)

I did something to my right foot in my half marathon a few weeks ago. Hurt just to walk - so I took a week off and thought I'd let rest and time heal it. Started back running again this week - got through about 5 miles today before the pain came back...and fast :( It was a long walk home, needless to say.

Pain seems to originate at the front of my heel and runs along the outside of my foot. It feels fine now, but I seem to keep aggravating it somehow...would rather be safe and get it checked out than to ignore it and have it keep interrupting my training. (Which at this point, I'm seriously off track with my marathon training)

Thanks!

I'm not sure where you are located, but Kyle Ballew is an excellent podiatrist in Waco, TX.

Thanks Elaine. Saw one today finally...needless to say I won't be going back to her. She was, well, terrible. (Just rushed me out the door when she had no other appointments, really stressed the follow-up (ie, more insurance money for her), didn't even tell me I couldn't run until I asked her, just didn't seem to care. :|

But turns out I have plantar fasciitis...I'm hoping to be back in the saddle in time for the TDF 20K, and then back to regular training after that.

Aw, plantar fasciitis.  Took me most of 2006 to recover from that after my arches collapsed completely.  Who fixed me though within a few months after going from doctor to doctor?  The chiropractor who comes out to the Dallas Running Club races, Chris Miller of Texas Chirosport.  He's a sports chiropractor and does a lot of what would be considered physical therapy items too.  When one of the "best" podiatrists in Dallas wanted to cut tendons in my feet and another had me on painkiller drugs that gave me nightmares, Dr. Miller fixed me with daily exercises and biweekly treatments.  Highly recommend - here's his info: 2406 N. Haskell Dallas, TX, (214) 370-4509, Fax (214) 370-4508

Mel, I had a terrible case of plantar fasciitis a few years ago. Try spending a week at Disney World when every step you take feels like a knife going into your heel. Though I'd die. Anyway, I fixed the problem with a not-very-expensive insert in my shoe--cured me within three days. It was like a miracle. I hesitate to mention the product on a public board, but if you'd like me to tell you more about it, feel free to e-mail me: jeangroce@sbcglobal.net. I have no connection whatsoever with the company. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I had severe plantar fasciitis a few years ago.  Ice the foot.  Don't go barefoot even indoors.  Get new shoes if yours don't give the right support for your stride and footstrike.  Chiropractor Novle Rogers is a fast-group Marathon pace leader with DRC and I find that he's good.  If necessary, see a podiatrist.  i did the first time and got a cortisone shot after an x-ray.  The second time I got p.f. I knew what do do and got past it.

But if your foot really hurts, or any part for that matter, respect it.  I've paid hard in the last six months for not doing so soon enough.

Mel, I sent you an e-mail about the shoe insert. If you didn't receive it (ya never know about cyberspace), let me know and I'll send it again.
