Once again I have kicked off my fall marathon training with the Too Hot Too handle 15k. And unlike the past two years, there were absolutely no clouds to be found in the sky.
This race has been growing every year I have participated and this years race was no different.
There was a water shortage that did not affect me, but I was disappointed about the lack of powerade at the stations. To make matters worse, I failed to carry any sportbeans or GU with me. It was interesting that once I finished the race I did spot some powerade though, still in case in powder form.
Regarding my race tactics, I really didn't have set plan. I knew my stretch goals would be to run an 8 minute/mile pace but didn't want to be much slower than 8.5 m/m. The heat really started to get to me around miles seven and eight so I cruised for a bit. I recovered and picked it back up for the last 1.3 miles though. I ended up finishing in 1:16 with an average pace of 8:13. I can live with that.
This also was my first race using my Nike+ Sportband which I have yet to calibrate properly (8.09 miles??). The jury is still out on it's reliability since I'm still having trouble with the band losing connection with it's sensor. At the time being I'm pretty tolerant since it only cost me $45
