The day after

This morning I got up, saw my medal and realized I actually finished my first half marathon. I started training in April, and at that time, I was struggling to complete 3 miles in 40 minutes. I finished the race yesterday at 2:28, just under my goal of 2:30, in no small part due to my awesome 11+ training group. They rock.

The funny thing is today, though really sore, all I can think about is how can I shave at least 5 minutes off my time at the White Rock Half!

Great Urban Race

Ralph and I competed in the Great Urban Race in Austin this last weekend. We thought it was going to be more game than race. WRONG. At least for us. We ended up doing 9 miles! It was a ton of fun, but without DRC training, I would never have been able to make it. That hill training paid off. We did not make the top 25, but we weren't that far back. The hill training paid off.

Halfway to half

I got serious about running the end of last April, and it has not been easy. Aches, pains, injuries plagued me until around the first of August. Finally started feeling like I was making progress. The body just did not come around as quickly as I thought it would, and if I had not joined the training groups, I don't think I would have stuck it out.

Last Saturday, I did 70 minutes of running with only one 1-minute break after 45 minutes. I could have kept going, but ran out of time. I only covered about 6.5 miles, but hey, that's half-way to a half. For the first time since April, I actually believe I can do a half.
