Rode on a bike everywhere as a kid, was a lifeguard and played some water polo in college, and started running to lose weight from my first desk job. Watched Julie Moss crawl her way to the '82 IM finish, and said "I want to do that". So I became a triathlete.
Became a decent age grouper in the '80s, and then dropped out to raise my son. Was talked into joining the Brian Loncar Racing team in '07, and am enjoying getting back into the sport and the people I like to hang out with.
Had a good race season in '08, but a side effect of all that racing and training is that I will probably not be heavy enough to race Clydesdale this year. I better get faster to compete with the faster old guys.

Good week of training. Rode to work three days, including Friday with the race bike. Darn TX wind; in my face on the way to work, and then turned and fought me on the way home. Oh well, I'm of the Nietzsche school of thought on training, so I'll just be better prepared.Swimming is going well, and the running is coming along, albeit a little behind schedule. Only four weeks until race season.
New wheels were at my door when I got home from work yesterday. I figured it was time for new ones after 15 years on the old ones. The weather dictated an indoor workout, so I swam a mile, ran a mile, did a very hard hour spin class, ran two miles, and then came home and made guacamole. Nice way to wrap up the day.
Wow! Bet that was an interesting swim. Hope you have a full recovering soon.
Interesting two weeks. Had a lower molar pulled, which triggered a whole cascade of reactions. Couldn't swallow, trouble breathing, now can't open my mouth wide enough to fit an energy bar in there. First exercise in two weeks was a short swim today. Interesting how the body's instinct to open the mouth to breathe, can fight against the jaw muscles' instinct to protect the joint. Interesting swim. Now for some soup.
was reminded the other day of why we should never laugh at those who fall while trying to click out of their clipless pedals. No matter how experienced we are, it's not a matter of if, but when. :)
Rode about 25 miles with the temperature in the lower 20s. Cold, but not too bad. Used a trip to the outlet mall to justify riding instead of driving. Stopped by the bike shop to pick up a few items that I realized would come in very handy on such days; neoprene booties and some cold weather tights. Stopped for a Starbucks coffee, and then home. Good day.
Very wet yesterday, but rode to school, then to the gym. Swam with Ralph before spin class, and then ran a few laps indoors. Rode home in fog and mist, had a bit to eat, and crashed. Will ride to work again today, and will ride Saturday morning. Very good week.
Well, I was all ready to ride to school this morning, but when I saw the road sanding truck turned over at the intersection next to my school, and did some quick calculations about the contact patch size of my bike tires, I decided to drive to work today. So, I went to the gym after work today, swim a quick 800 or so, did a very hard spin class, and then ran six or seven laps to shake the cobwebs out.If the temperature is above freezing in the morning, I'll ride.
My son is at his mom's this week, so I am trying to ride to and from work (15 miles round trip) each day. Today was COLD (25ish degrees), and it started sleeting on me on the way home, AND I had to ride into a 20+ mph headwind on the way home. FUN!It sleeted some more here tonight, so I'll see what it looks like on the streets in the morning. If I can, I'll ride.Oh, and then spin class 6-7. :)
The guys I started with back in the early '80s were all a little nutty. Going extreme was the only way to go. 100 miles on 100 degree days, to freezing your butt off to ride to Spaghetti Warehouse on Super Bowl Sunday, and everything in between. I'll do it until I can't. I'm pretty sure it's not limited to triathletes, and very sure it's not limited to the guys. :)One step in front of the guy with the shovel, baby. They can't bury me if I'm still moving.
That's pretty nutty! Do all Tri-guys do that?
Tingle toes, tingle toes, tingle all the way.Oh what fun it is to ride on a 28 degree day.
Good to hear, but I'm probably always on my best behavior at races, wearing the sponsor's stuff. :)
Seriously, she only had good things to say about you!
